Award –winning rapping boy group P-UNIT are back with a controversial single ‘Kare’, whose last Sunday’s video shoot cost the trio slightly over KSh200,000.
The whole day shoot witnessed by a host of celebrity was done at the Gallileo Lounge. It features upcoming singer Mimmi (who did the background vocals), Lady Bee, and an array of sassy models and dancers.
“We wanted to do something different from the club hits we are known for. The laid back mood is meant for guys to enjoy the lyrical content,” Frasha a member of The Unit explained.
“We put Sh120,000 on the shooting alone and another Sh90,000 on the other technical bits plus payments for models and dancers,” he added.
The contest for East Africa’s top club seems to have been won by Gallileo Lounge after the popular lounge opened a new section known as Johnny Walker VIP Lounge. The opening ceremony took place on Tuesday and attracted top stars and personalities who came to sample the black carpet treatment and were served with all kinds of Johnny Walker labels.
“The new section is for those patrons who look for VIP treatment,” said a manager at the Lounge.
For a long time there has been a debate on the coziest club in the region. The contest was between Angenoir in Kampala, Club Bilicans in Dar es Salaam and Galileo Lounge.
Emmanuel Jal will feature in the upcoming documentary Picha Mtaani, initiated by CNN photojournalist of the year Boniface Mwangi. The initiative is a youth-led national reconciliation initiative established “to engage the Kenyan youth in finding lasting solutions to attaining peace and reconciliation; to healing the nation”. Jal speaks about how he witnessed his auntie been raped at the age of five, losing his mother in the war and the anguish he went through during the Sudan Civil War as a child soldier. He narrates how hard life as a refugee was and why young Kenyans should stop do their best to avoid a recurrence of what happened in 2007. The deal to appear on the documentary was stuck after Picha Mtaani Founder Boniface Mwangi and Emmanuel Jal met in London. Boniface was in London after attending the TED conference in Oxford as one of the 2010 TED Global fellows. London based Kenyan Filmmaker David Mbiyu of 601 TV shot the video. The documentary brings you the human story, an eyewitness account, of the tragedy that befell Kenyans after the 2007 December elections. His song We Want Peace will also feature in the movie.

If there is one thing we have to admire about Nazizi it’s her ability to keep a secret. The NecessaryNoize singer has been so tight-lipped about her life over the years that it recently came as a rude shock to her fans last month that she had been married for two years.
In more surprises, early this week the singer delivered a baby boy who she has named Kamar. She has also hinted on a Necessary Noize single in the near future.
On her Facebook fan page she posted: “Necessary Noize coming soon…so the discussion me and Wyre had the other day is what the new song should sound like, mmmhh.”
Well, for now all WE can say is CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEW MUM.
Celebrated Kenyan movie maker Wanuri Kahiu has been featured in this month’s Vogue Italia, the Italian edition of Vogue Magazine. The tell-all-interview has Wanuri discussing both her personal and public life.
One excerpt reads, “I think I’m the black sheep in the family: my mother is a doctor, my father is a businessman and they are more conservative in a particular way…” She also gives some beauty advice, “A woman shouldn’t leave home without eye makeup, even before your clothes, they notice your eyes.”
Wanuri also pays tribute to Hollywood director Philip Noyce whom she worked with on movies like The Italian Job and Catch a Fire.
“He inspired me and in that film I really learned more than in any film school and I realized what it means to work with actors and directing it was really first training.”
What the future holds for her? “I’m very hopeful about the future, but knowing that I make a difference myself. I believe that people can plant trees and should conserve, recycle and re-use things. We have to be careful and sensitive; like in my film Pumzi, we have to be the mother of Mother Nature and if we are not, then she will stop mothering us.”
