Kibera youth movie to feature in international festival

Two budding teenage filmmakers in Kibera are making plans to travel to New York at the end of the month for the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival. The two, David Were and Maureen Atieno, are part of twelve Kibera youth under Voiceless Children organization.

Voiceless Children is an initiative that was set up by photojournalist and humanitarian Felix Masi in 2005 to identify opportunities to empower women and children affected by HIV/AIDS. Masi, who is also the producer of the film, revealed, “The film Hands of Love is an eight minute documentary about sanitation in Kibera. We had initially done the film for Listen Up! And Adobe Youth Voices International Film project early this year.

“We are very excited that it was picked as one of the films that will be showing at this year’s Human Rights Watch International Film Festival in NYC in June.”

The festival will be running from June 11-24.
