The Pan-African Musical theater show ‘Daughters of Africa: The hope of a continent' that has been rehearsing in the Sarakasi Dome, Nairobi put on a special farewell show. This show at the Sarakasi Dome in Ngara was the only performance in Kenya. The show goes on tour with the official premiere to be in the Royal Carre Theatre in Amsterdam on 11 March 2010.
The show opened with a vote of thanks by Peter Ultee, the production's executive director; he had to catch a plane out of Nairobi. His humorous introduction was a good start to an amazing evening.
The musical production brings together 12 girls from 8 African countries in a show that is backed by a band which also has a diverse group of Africans. Representing Kenya were Neema Ntalel and Christine Apondi (below). Other girls were from Cameroon, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe. The instrumentalists are from Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria and Zambia.
The dance routines were very good and that was credited to dance choreographer, Edwin Ooro better known as Edu. He partnered with dancer and choreographer Daniel Kimathi.
The girls performed songs from the various countries. Two Kenyan songs performed were: Susanna Owiyo’s “Kisumu 100” by Christine Apondi and Ayub Ogada’s “Koth Biro” by Neema Ntalel
The strong vocalisation of the group impressed all in the audience. The girls got a standing ovation.
