Wyre signs with SONY affiliate label

Wyre the Love Child has been signed to the same label as rapper Madraxx, Rockstar 4000 Music Entertainment. The label is the continent’s first Pan African 360 Music & Entertainment Company and Record Label.
The Gimmie the Music singer get a sweet deal that will see Rockstar 4000, through its exclusive Pan African partnership with Sony Music Entertainment Africa, will distribute Wyre’s music and video catalogue to hundreds of digital storefronts worldwide, including major digital music services like iTunes®, Amazon MP3, Napster, eMusic, Rhapsody, Beatport, YouTube, Vevo, Zune, MySpace Music, Spotify, SKY, Juno Download, Boomkat, and Turntable Lab and mobile carriers and outlets such as Verizon Wireless, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Nokia (to name a few) via Sony’s partnership with the San Francisco-based digital distributor IODA.label
“Wyre is an exciting addition to our Rockstar family and one of the first artists from East Africa that’s consistently pushed the boundaries of his music and making better music videos with his eye on expanding his fan base and music outside of the boundaries of Kenya and East Africa. Wyre is planning on launching his latest album Ten Years Younger in Nigeria later this month.

P-UNIT for Desert Storm

The trio that makes P Unit; Frasha, Bon Eye and Gabu will be touring Dubai for a concert dubbed Desert Storm.
The group popular for their hits Hapa Kule and Kare are scheduled to blaze up Dubai on August 6.

Amani ranked Sexiest performer

MTV award- winning songstress Cecilia Wairimu aka Amani has added yet another feather on her cap. The multiple award winner has been nominated as one of the top African sexiest entertainers. The results of Africa’s Sexiest Entertainers was compiled by DSTV’s Studio 54 entertainment channel.

“I am happy for the recognition. It is such an honour for me to be counted as one of the continent’s top stars. Besides, I thank my fans, as they have been my greatest motivation. I will never let them down,” she told us.

The selection was gauged on artistes’ versatility and audience appeal when on stage. Others listed include Lizha James of Estilo Xakhale and Nollywood top actress Genevieve Nnaji.

Abbas' peace plea

After winning the first round of the hip-hop showdown against Chiwawa last Friday, rapper Abbas Kubaff appealed for unity among Kenya Hip-hop stars.

“We have good rappers and hip- hop can be big here if we unite. We have better rappers than Nigeria and Tanzania but they package themselves better to win continental recognition. We need to team up together and put up a better image of who we are. That way, we will go places,” he told us.

“It’s time we grew up and forgot petty differences which only help to put us down,” he said.

UG Bombing inspires artistes

Barely two weeks after the July 11 Kampala bomb blasts that shook Ugandans to the core. Ugandan musicians are already beginning to pen their fiercest reactions. Batabazi & Momayanja were among the first musicans to release a song commemorating the tragic event titled ‘Rise Up’.

Mowzey Radio and Weasel have also released a song titled ‘Ndi muna Uganda’, Released under the ‘I’m a Ugandan’ group that began as a Richard Kawesa idea. A collabo between Kawesa and Juliana Kanyomozi is also reported to be in the works.

P-UNIT's 'costly' video

Award –winning rapping boy group P-UNIT are back with a controversial single ‘Kare’, whose last Sunday’s video shoot cost the trio slightly over KSh200,000.

The whole day shoot witnessed by a host of celebrity was done at the Gallileo Lounge. It features upcoming singer Mimmi (who did the background vocals), Lady Bee, and an array of sassy models and dancers.

“We wanted to do something different from the club hits we are known for. The laid back mood is meant for guys to enjoy the lyrical content,” Frasha a member of The Unit explained.

“We put Sh120,000 on the shooting alone and another Sh90,000 on the other technical bits plus payments for models and dancers,” he added.

Galileo it is!

The contest for East Africa’s top club seems to have been won by Gallileo Lounge after the popular lounge opened a new section known as Johnny Walker VIP Lounge. The opening ceremony took place on Tuesday and attracted top stars and personalities who came to sample the black carpet treatment and were served with all kinds of Johnny Walker labels.

“The new section is for those patrons who look for VIP treatment,” said a manager at the Lounge.

For a long time there has been a debate on the coziest club in the region. The contest was between Angenoir in Kampala, Club Bilicans in Dar es Salaam and Galileo Lounge.

Emmanuel Jal in Picha Mtaani documentary

Emmanuel Jal will feature in the upcoming documentary Picha Mtaani, initiated by CNN photojournalist of the year Boniface Mwangi.
The initiative is a youth-led national reconciliation initiative established “to engage the Kenyan youth in finding lasting solutions to attaining peace and reconciliation; to healing the nation”.
Jal speaks about how he witnessed his auntie been raped at the age of five, losing his mother in the war and the anguish he went through during the Sudan Civil War as a child soldier. He narrates how hard life as a refugee was and why young Kenyans should stop do their best to avoid a recurrence of what happened in 2007.

The deal to appear on the documentary was stuck after Picha Mtaani Founder Boniface Mwangi and Emmanuel Jal met in London. Boniface was in London after attending the TED conference in Oxford as one of the 2010 TED Global fellows. London based Kenyan Filmmaker David Mbiyu of 601 TV shot the video.
The documentary brings you the human story, an eyewitness account, of the tragedy that befell Kenyans after the 2007 December elections. His song We Want Peace will also feature in the movie.

Sana & Manga break-up

The celebrity couple of Sanaipei Tande and Manga is no more after they split citing “irreconcilable differences”.
The two have been dating for three and a half years but media reports have constantly documented their turbulent affair.

The Kiss 100 presenter told Hot Secrets, “We called it off this month. I won’t discuss who left who all I can say is that no love is lost but it just wasn’t working,” adding, “The breakup was due to lots of issues but more importantly we didn’t see eye to eye on certain things.”
Sana is still riding on the wave of her hit songs Najuta featuring Jua Cali and You featuring Big Pin.

Twice the SHUGA

After the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria last week, the officials behind the gripping three-part drama, Shuga gave it a new lease of life.
On Tuesday, July 20, a panel of MTV, Pepfar and Unicef officials heard that in Kenya, where the three part series was filmed, an astounding 64% of young people 15-24 were aware of the campaign and 60% saw it and remembered it.
This lead to increased intentions to take an HIV test decreased intentions to be in a concurrent relationship and increased positive attitudes relating to HIV stigma. More importantly, over 90% of the young people in Kenya viewer group said the show had an effect on their thinking.

What could the big shots do but declare that a sequel to Shuga be shot. Also at the conference were two of the actors in the MTV dara series, Lupita Nyongo and Nicholas Mutuma, both of whom played lead roles as Ayira and Leo respectively.

Shuga is a no hold bared drama about the lives of a group of students in Nairobi featuring their of sex, ambition, hopes and fears; will see it given a new life line.
However with the return of Shuga 2, will see some actors dropped as their characters die and others take on a new lease of life.
